my very first attempt
where my life begins and ends,
a tiny room in a tiny place
at the corner of the darkest bend.
its full of tiny trinkets
junk to a stranger's eye
but, to me they're more precious
than diamonds as they come by
a candy wrapper, a ticket stub
a silver bell broken off a string
a dried flower, given so long ago-
as a gift of love to keep
these are my life's possesions
all that i'll ever need,
along with the man in front of me
where all my life's loose ends meet.
